A good turnout of walkers for the Welbeck Hotel sponsored one hour challenge on Sunday 6 October with 37 seniors and juniors combined in the events.
In terms of furthest distance walked, it was the girls who led the way. Seasoned campaigner Marie Jackson recorded the furthest distance with 9718 metres ahead of another Manx Harrier, Jayne Farquhar who recorded 9559m. Prizes for this event are aimed at novice and newcomer walkers and Phill Swales was the first to fall into this category, recording 9527m for top Novice and someone who has made a big improvement since recently taking up walking. Second Novice (1st lady novice) was Lorna Gleave, who impressed both in terms of pace but also technique with 9395m. Junior Keira Heavey was 3rd Novice (2nd lady novice) and while she has been competing at age group events, this was a big step up in terms of distance, she also recorded a very respectable 9329m. Vicky Heavey took the prize for 3rd Lady Novice, recording 8816. 2nd male novice was Adie Corlett with a distance of 8201m and Lee Worsfold was another new face and recorded 7814m.
The hot soup and rolls supplied by Michael and Irene George who also generously sponsored the prizes in this popular event were well received in the damp conditions.
Thanks to all who helped and officiated at the event.
