The Welbeck Hotel & Restaurant “One Hour Challenge” walking event is on Sunday 27 September. This event is aimed at encouraging novice and new walkers to have a go at seeing how far they can walk in one hour. The event takes place on closed perimeter roadway of the National Sports Centre. Participants must try and complete as many laps as possible before a gun is fired to signal the end of the race. The laps and part laps are counted up and presentation of awards after these are calculated. Experienced walkers are also very welcome to take on the challenge, but will be excluded from the prize list.
There are also supporting events with a ½ hour walk aimed at junior walkers or less confident seniors and junior mile event for the younger children if required.
Prizes are awarded for the top three novice walkers as decided by the race officials, to have walked furthest in the hour and half hour walks and certificates will be available for all participants. Refreshments and presentation will take place directly after the racing.
Signing on for the event is from 8.30am at the Manx Harriers Clubhouse (on the N.S.C. perimeter roadway), parking will be available via the entrance directly on your left as you pass the Quarter-Bridge Hotel in the direction of the New Castletown Road. The event will get underway from 9.30 am. Entry fees are £5 for seniors and £2 for juniors and walkers of all ages and abilities will be welcomed.
