The summer Track and Field League gets underway with signing on in early April and this signals the start of the summer athletics season.
Originally the League had weekly meetings running through till early August but in line with UK Athletics permitting rules is now run once or twice a month from April through to July. The age groups catered for in the League are Under 7 (age 5-6) through to Under 17. Older athletes from Under 20 up to senior and veteran, while not counting for the League can enter events on the evening of competition. The league also encompasses the Steve Jacobs Mile where novice athletes can take on the elite in a handicapped 1 mile on the track.
The Club is also involved in team competitions off Island with athletes in the Under 13 and Under 15 age groups competing as part of the Isle of Man club composite Youth Development Team if selected. Under 17, Under 20 and Senior athletes have the opportunity of being selected as part of the Isle of Man club composite Northern League Team.
Manx Harriers regularly organises trips to and has athletes competing successfully at UK competition at all levels from County and Regional Championships to National and UK Championship level in all age groups. Some of the Clubs athletes also take advantage of the indoor season to compete in open meetings and championships in the UK during the winter months.Keep an eye on our news section for any Manx Harriers organised trips. On Island our athletes take part in the IOMAA organised Open Meetings and the Isle of Man Track & Field Championships.
Many of Manx Harriers junior and senior athletes have been selected to represent the Isle of Man at Island Games and Commonwealth Games level and have made up many International teams in all variety of athletic disciplines. We have also had junior and senior athletes making GB International teams and competing at World level with great distinction.
