The Winter Walking League is a series of five rounds which run through the winter months at various Island locations starting at end of October with the final event in February or March. The League is aimed at race walkers of all levels, though with it being handicapped, it tends to favour those who are improving their fitness and race walking technique. It is a great marker for all athletes wanting to see how their fitness is improving throughout the winter.
The first round is scratch where handicaps are then calculated and further rounds are either started on handicap (slowest starts first) or sealed handicap when all start together and handicaps are added after racing. The winner of the League is the highest point scorer with three of the five rounds to count.
Races distances are 10km for seniors, 5km Seniors/juniors and junior events of 3km, 2km and 1km depending on age groups.
